Dear 9th grade me,
For many people, high school is when they make memories to last a lifetime. In your case, I’d say it’s more of a stepping stone in your journey through growing up. Little more than a turning point in your adventure.
There are a few things I’d like you to keep in mind with this transition in life. First off, don’t worry so much. You sort of develop this nasty habit of taking yourself, and everything in general, a little bit too seriously. None of the grade 12’s will even take a second look at you. Focus more on finding out who you are, rather than trying to impress people. That doesn’t mean ditch the leg warmers. You totally rocked those. I mean figure out what makes you happy and what makes you who you are, rather than always making sure your actions make other people happy. You know how you said you wouldn’t turn to drugs and alcohol? Keep it up. Sure that choice won’t make you a lot of friends, but it sure keeps you out of trouble, and makes longer lasting friends. Speaking of friends, one tip, watch your back at all times. You may think they’re nice now, but be careful who you trust. You waste far too many hours crying over silly things that could have been avoided. Your parents will always be an issue in this phase of life. I strongly suggest you start seeing a counsellor instead of keeping your pride intact and trying to deal with it all yourself. Finally, never forget to tell those you love, that you love them. The world works in mysterious ways, but don’t forget to be happy and remember the bad times won’t last forever.
